Final 2015 Health Tip from Soupermom!

Hello Loyal Soup People! It has been a confusing year in the health world. Long held beliefs have been turned upside down. Fat doesn’t make you fat! Salt might not be quite as bad as we thought! Coffee is really good for you! The list goes on and on. People can find the varying health recommendations very confusing.

So what’s a Soupermom to do?? What tips and advice can I confidently pass along? In my opinion, while things do seem confusing, basic health recommendations haven’t changed too much. In short, trust your gut. Like Michael Pollan says, “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”

What does this mean? If you need a PHD to read the ingredient list of a particular product you’re eating, it probably isn’t natural. Not “food.” Listen to your body! If you’re body says you’re no longer hungry, stop eating. And lastly, most nutritionists, doctors, and health specialists agree that a plant based diet is one of the best paths to healthy living – for yourself and for the planet.

The debate about salt, fat, sugar, etc. all become noisy after a while. If you eat primarily plant based, unprocessed food and listen to your body, you’re eating healthfully. Add in a bit (or a lot) of exercise, and you are on your way!
