Know the story of your food. Who planted it? Who picked it? How far did it travel before it was cooked? Ask a farmer. We are proud to work with a growing network of local, responsible farmers who are helping to feed our community in a responsible and sustainable way. Here are just a few of the farms with which we work.
Tree and Leaf Farm
Georgia O’Neal and Zachariah Lester have been farming in Virginia since 1998. They practice sustainable, organic farming, free of pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. Zach, who can be found selling Tree and Leaf produce at markets around DC, believes that as “soil, soul, and society, we’re all intertwined.” We agree, Zach. PS – we love your kale!
Spring Valley Farm and Orchard
Eli and Misty Cook, the owners of Augusta, West Virginia based Spring Valley Farm and Orchard manage their 345 acre farm with the fundamentals of sustainable agriculture. It is a small, family run operation with a hands-on approach to farming.
Next Step Produce
Heinz Thomet, Gabrielle Lajoie, and their children manage this 80 acre certified organic farm located 50 miles outside of Washington, DC in southern Maryland. Heinz and Gabrielle believe in growing incredible produce in harmony with nature. Their sweet potatoes are the secret ingredient to our West African Peanut Stew!
