Our Values and Our Partners
We believe in the Golden Rule – treat others as you would like to be treated. In our view – the word “others” includes people, air, water, animals, you, me – all of us. We are aware of the complexity of our food system, and we’re trying to be a part of the solution.
Every day, we try to practice what we preach: being thoughtful about sourcing, minimizing waste, composting, treating our team-members justly, equally, and fairly, cooking healthfully… These aren’t tall orders, but they’re significant rebellions against the food system as we know it. Our promises are cooked into our soups. When you slurp Mediterranean Red Lentil or guzzle Beet Gazpacho, you know you’re contributing to a better food system and a better world for everyone.
That, friends, is radically delicious.
We’re fighting for a better food system that respects all stakeholders. Check out the programs, farmers, and organizations with whom we partner to revolutionize the food system and help work towards a better world:
The transition to renewable energy needed to start ages ago. But, it’s been challenging to ditch fossil fuels. Arcadia is on a mission to make renewable energy accessible for everyone. Arcadia has helped Soupergirl transition to renewable energy at our flagship location in Takoma. We’re also partnering with Arcadia to offer renewable energy options to all Soupergirl customers.
Certified Plastic Neutral
Soupergirl is now certified Plastic Neutral by rePurpose Global. For every product we sell, we are donating a percentage towards vetted programs that will remove and recover as much plastic waste from the environment as we use in our packaging and operations. In addition to reducing our plastic use wherever possible, this partnership with rePurpose Global allows us to fund cutting-edge recycling innovation, support additional income streams for marginalized waste workers in India, and ultimately reduce plastic leakage into landfills and waterways. By doing so, we are proud to announce that every Soupergirl purchase will now carry a Net Zero Plastic Footprint. Learn more about our Plastic Neutral Guarantee at www.plasticneutral.global.
DC Food Project
DC Food Project is working to fight food insecurity in our neighborhood. While many of their food distribution sites across the city are open to anyone, DC Food Project has worked closely with school administrators and staff to identify kids and families who most need this support and invite them to pick-up bags of nourishment where these families feel most comfortable.
Soupergirl has developed a custom soup for DC Food Project’s recipients. The DC Food Project Red Bean-Sweet Potato-Rice soup is packed with nutrients, protein, fiber, warmth, and flavor. Soupergirl is proud to partner with this extraordinary organization that is fighting food insecurity – one family at a time. To donate directly to the Soupergirl-DC Food Project program, please visit their site.
Composting is one of the single most important actions that individuals and companies can take to reduce needless waste in landfills. Organic waste in landfills generates methane, a potent greenhouse gas. By composting wasted food and other organics, methane emissions are significantly reduced. Compost reduces and in some cases eliminates the need for chemical fertilizers. Compost promotes higher yields of agricultural crops.
Our partner, Compost Cab, was founded by a local, DC dad who is committed to reducing waste for his family and community. Soupergirl produces thousands of pounds of vegetable scraps every week. Compost Cab helps us to turn these peels and scraps into new vegetables!
Lancaster Farm Fresh Co-Op

LFFC focuses on creating healthy, high quality foods from highly maintained and enriched soils with largely non-mechanized practices The produce is certified organic, and the Co-op supports farmers that are using sustainable practices. LFFC is owned by the farmers working in cooperation with each other to grow healthy quality foods.
Spring Valley Farm and Orchard
Owners Eli and Misty Cook manage their 405 acres with the fundamentals of Integrated Pest Management and sustainable agriculture. A family operated business and hands on approach ensure every product going to market is handled with care from the field — to the packing shed — and ultimately to market. They also specialize in using the Earth’s solar heat to produce crops all winter long. Spring Valley Farm and Orchard: Fresh from the ground, year-round.
Built on the desire to fundamentally change the food system for the better and the fact that 20 billion pounds of cosmetically imperfect or unharvested food are wasted each year. Full Harvest helps reduce food waste by creating a place for farms to sell oddly-shaped and surplus produce. Soupergirl is proud to source many of the ingredients in our soups from Full Harvest.
